Hello, I am Abhranil Das. I was born in Kolkata and went to South Point School. I am currently studying my final year of a 5-year intergrated MS in Physics at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata (IISER-K). Here's my CV.
I started writing a book on the mathematics of vision in school which I finished in college. It has been published by Lambert Academic Publishers, Germany. You can find it on almost all popular online bookstores. The thumbnail takes you to Amazon.com.
For 2½ months in the summer of 2011 I worked (on this) at the University of Hamburg, Germany with funding from the DAAD. Now I have been appointed a Young Ambassador for the promotion of German studies and scholarships in India (here's my profile). You can mail me at amb.das@daadindia.org with any questions.
My passions other than Physics include drumming, writing, photography, a bit of sketching, and conservation. I rather like programming, web-designing (I designed the website for Inquivesta 2011, our college science festival), and graphic designing. My favourite outdoor activities include biking, swimming and football.

I started teaching myself to play the drums from the start of undergraduate college (that's about 2008), and performed in some college events. Here's some of the videos:
Recently I've started teaching myself the keyboard a bit. I don't know anything about the keyboard or piano (can't even tell which key is what note), but there's this little score called Truman Sleeps from the beautiful 1998 movie The Truman Show that I liked so much I decided I'd have to learn to play it. I learnt it from video lessons and played an adaptation of it on a keyboard. I recorded it and lightly edited it in Audacity and uploaded to soundcloud. You can listen to it here:
Coming to what music I like to listen to, it's mostly electronic and rock. My favourite rock bands are Coldplay, Radiohead, Linkin Park, The Eagles, Death Cab for Cutie, The XX and 3 Doors Down. In more instrumental and electronic music my favourites are Hybrid, God is an Astronaut, Carbon Based Lifeforms, Owl City, Enigma, Daft Punk, The Prodigy, Clint Mansell, Ulrich Schnauss, Bassnectar and Ratatat. A lot of these are uncommon bands and artists who I pick up from 8tracks, an awesome crowd-sourced online mix library. You can take a look at all my favourite music on 8tracks. You may also listen to an electronic mix I created by pulling the best electronic music I've heard from various artists by clicking below or going to 8tracks.
